PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

AITEN is a statewide program to promote, support, protect, the health, traditions, and cultural values of American Indians as they relate to sacred tobacco use and commercial tobacco abuse. AITEN will accomplish these objectives:

Reduce exposure to Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) in rural and urban areas by establishing policies to eliminate second hand smoke exposure.
Conduct educational campaigns against the tobacco industry targeting our youths.
Assist our communities in mobilizing to eliminate, prohibit commercial tobacco products, promotions, and assist in addressing the misuse of American Indian icons, imagery, or exploit the sacred purpose of tobacco.

ACTIVITIES/TRAININGS/CONFERENCES ASSOCIATED:

Dissemination of surveys and conducting focus group sessions.
Production of a video focusing on second hand smoke exposure & its health effects.
