Traditional Indian Health Gathering

The 32nd Annual Traditional Indian Health Education Gathering will take place in 2012 at the Shingle Springs Rancheria on May 18-20, 2012 in California.  Each year the Committee for Traditional Indian Health develops the Gathering for Indian health clinic staff and Indian community members interested in including or furthering traditional Indian healing methods into the healthcare system to benefit Indian clients.  Agenda items will include Keynote Address, Workshops on providing Traditional Indian Healthcare, Making Medicine Demonstrations, Traditional ceremonies, Traditional foods, Wellness Talking Circles, Traditional Singers and Dancers, and much more.
The Committee is excited to have this year’s gathering at the Indian education and Development, Inc.  Committee for Traditional Indian Health members include:  Clarence Atwell, Tachi; Beverly Hunter, Chukchansi; Walt Lara, Yurok; Art Martinez, Chumash; Linda Navarro, Cahuilla-Shasta; and Anita Silva, Pomo.     America Reaffirms Health Care for Indian Country
    National Indian Health Board

    Washington, DC – The United States’ 564 federally‐recognized tribes claim victory with today’s
    historic passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The House passed the Senate’s
    health care reform bill by a vote of 219 to 212 which includes the reauthorization of the Indian Health
    Care Improvement Act (IHCIA), placing in effect health care legislation that American Indians and
    Alaska Natives have been requesting from Congress for the past ten years.
