"The Mission of the Karuk Tribal Health Program is to provide health care for Native Americans and other peoples living in the communities we serve. We strive to maximize our limited resources to provide culturally appropriate educational, preventative, and therapeutic services in an environment of continuous quality improvement." The clinics of the Karuk Tribal Health Program provide services to patients who reside in the sparsely populated, isolated communities of Siskiyou and Humboldt Counties. This region encompasses over 4,080 sq. miles, topped by steep forested mountains with narrow, deep canyons accessible by narrow, winding roads coursing along the banks of the Klamath, Salmon and Scott Rivers. Two large valleys, Scott Valley and Shasta Valley surround the Tribes largest clinic in Yreka. Tribes and reservations in the operating area are:
SITES Karuk Tribal Health Program Clinics are licensed by the State of California as Rural Community Health Clinics delivering primary care in three locations:
SERVICESMedicine - Each clinic provides primary health care as well as referrals for CHS. Basic labortory and pharmaceutical services are provided as part of the direct care services of the Karuk Tribal clinics. In addition, referrals from these primary care clinics for contract health services such as x-ray and more complex laboratory services, specialist consultation, and other pharmacy needs are made as indicated.Service providers: 3 physician 2, 2 RN's, 1 nurse practitioner, 1 RPMS coordinator, 1 optometrist, 1 LVN. Dental - Services provides at Yreka and Happy Camp locations.Service providers: 1 staff dentist, 1 dental hygientist, 1 dental hygienist. Community Health and Public Health Nursing - Preventions programs include Injury Prevention, bicycle helmets, and child and infant safety seats. Immunizations, pre- and post-natal case management, diabetic foot care, diabetic support groups, self-breast exams, blood pressure screenings, nutrition education, and HIV/AIDS education and prevention services are also provided. Other Tribal programs also coordinate activities with Tribal health service such as the Elders Program, Indian Child Welfare Program, Education Program, Head Start and Child Care Programs, Tribal Housing Authority, Housing Improvement Program, Water & Wastewater Sanitation Program, Energy Assistance Program, Tribal Enrollment/Census Department, and a Tobacco Abuse Prevention and Education Program.
