Succession Planning at the California
Rural Indian Health Board, Inc

r. James Allen Crouch, MPH announced his
retirement in a press release on January 8, 2013. The
scheduled announcement was part of the recently board
approved succession plan. Mr. Crouch, a member of the
Cherokee Nation, has been the Executive Director of the
Sacramento-based tribal organization, since 1987. Under
his management, the CRIHB organizational budget has
grown from $8.3 million to $39.4 million and from a central
office staff of 12 to almost 100 staff.
The Board Personnel Committee reviewed 17 resumes they
had received for the ExecutiveDirector position and selected
3 of the applicants to schedule for a first round interview.
Under the Board approved succession plan, Mr. Crouch will
remain at CRIHB until January 4, 2014; serving the last
six-months of this year as the technical advisor for the new
Executive Director with the title of CRIHB Senior Advisor.
A continuing focus over the next twelve months will be
assisting in the implementation of the Affordable Care Act
which should be fully rolled out by the end of this year. The
CRIHB Organization wishes Jimmany years of great health
and happiness and look forward to establishing a new long-
term relationship with him in his retirement. Best wishes to
