NAWPAC
The Native American Women’s Public Awareness Campaign on Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment and Prevention was conceived and funded by the California State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP). The goals of the project are to increase the capacity of Native American women in California to address alcohol and other drug (AOD) problems and to improve family communication skills. Primary activities include the publication of Red Voices magazine and the development of a Native American women’s conference. In addition, the program staff develops culturally competent educational materials on topics such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and methamphetamine prevention and treatment for the American Indian community in California.
In January 2008, the program conducted a survey of Native American women in California in order to identify the major issues and concerns of this community. The information will be used to identify issues and topics for new materials, including Red Voices and the women’s conference.
