Tobacco Programs
at the California Rural Indian Health Board

All CRIHB tobacco programs work collaboratively with an Advisory Committee, Community Tobacco Educators, or workgroups on media and materials development, to provide technical assistance and training in the areas of:

  • traditional/native tobacco
  • environmental tobacco smoke
  • tobacco prevention
  • education
  • cessation
  • advocacy
  • youth and adult leadership

Mini-grant funds are available through two of the programs (TEPTS and AITEN). Assistance with the identification and provision of health education resources specific to American Indian/Alaska Native communities is also provided. All services are specific to each program's target group.

The American Indian Tobacco Education Network (AITEN)
Funded by: California Department of Health Services, Tobacco 
Control Section (TCS)
Grant Term: July 2001-June 2004
Target Groups: All tribes within the state of California (109+)

  • Reduce Exposure to Secondhand Smoke
  • Counter Pro-Tobacco Influences in the Community

The Tobacco Education Prevention Technical Support Center (TEPTS)
Funded by: Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); Office of Smoking and Health
Grant term: October 2000-June 2004
Target Groups: All tribes within the state of California (109+), 11 California Rural Indian Health Board Affiliated Clinics, 35 Member Tribes, along with non-member Tribes throughout California, Nevada and Utah.
