Bike SAFE

Lending Library Resources | Training opportunities

CRIHB is happy to announce the recent award of $65,000 for a 22-month period to focus on bicycle safety from California Kids' Plates (California Center for Childhood Injury Prevention). The grant, which is one of only four grants funded statewide, is entitled Bike SAFE (Safety for American Indian Families) and focuses on local, one-day training events for interested Outreach, Head Start and other clinic staff and community members. The training will include how to properly fit a helmet, how to hold effective bike rodeos, bulk helmet purchase campaigns, funding for bicycle safety, and other exciting topics.

In addition, one youth program will be selected to pilot a Youth Bicycle Advocacy group, which will receive stipends and bicycle-related prizes for participation in presentations to younger children and other safe bicycle activities.

Subcontracts will be offered to interested CRIHB Tribal Health Programs to participate in the injury prevention coalition, provide presentations to local Tribal Councils, hold local bike rodeos and other events, purchase supplies and educational materials, etc.
